ANLCA’s NEC Meeting: Expulsion of erring members not personal decision – Says BoT Vice Chairman, Chukwura

Lauds National President on inauguration of BoT

The Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Ozo Chukwura has applauded the National President of the association, Hon. Tony Iju Nwabunike, for inaugurating the BoT few months after the election that took place in Owerri, Imo State capital.

He gave the commendation during interview with reporters, at the sidelines of the just oncluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of ANLCA, which took place on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the prestigious Marriott hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

Prince Chukwura expressed satisfaction on the conduct of the NEC meeting, stressed that the entire exercise was highly transparent, as all delegates in attendance openly expressed their views on how to move the association forward.

He pointed out: “It was a good thing that some of you from the media attended the NEC meeting and witnessed how transparent the whole process was. You heard the contributions made by members from all chapters across the country.
I commend the National President for his efforts in ensuring openness and transparency at all times.

“Even the BoT election, which took place in Owerri few months ago was well conducted.
All members were carried along, even those outside the country were given opportunity to participate electronically.

“So, Tony Nwabunike is doing his best. It is left for us to work unitedly and move ANLCA forward. For example, he just inaugurated the BoT, followed by NEC meeting. Now, those of us members of BoT are ready to give the President and the association full support.”

Responding to questions on expulsion of erring top members of ANLCA, he said; “One thing we must understand clearly is that expulsion of some members for anti-association activities was a collective decision taken by NEC, and not a personal decision of the President. So, the NEC has decided and its decision is binding on the association”.

On the possibility of expelled members going to Court for a legal battle, he explained; “Well, they can go to Court. But don’t forget that ANLCA has a Constitution guiding its decisions.
However, we want to make peace in ANLCA.”

OBSERVATION AT ANLCA’s NEC MEETING
Our Correspondent, who attended the meeting observed that it was exhaustive deliberation, which lasted over seven hours. Also, delegates from various chapters gave their own inputs.

After several hours of discussion, some delegates suggested suspension for defaulting members, while others called for outright expulsion.

Both suggestions were put to vote. In the process, 42 members voted for expulsion,
against only seven who voted for suspension.

At that point, a decision was taken by ANLCA’s NEC, as Chief Ernest Elochukwu and his company, Nestilo Nigeria limited; Sir John Oforbike and his company – DENCA Services Limited, as well as others were expelled.
