FG is using border closure to curb arms smuggling, illicit trade- Says Comptroller Uba

The Coordinator in charge of Joint Border Drill Operations, North Central zone, sector-3, Ilorin, Kwara State, Comptroller  Mohammed Uba has said that the Federal Government is using border closure exercise to curb smuggling of arms and illicit trade in the country.

He said this when he received the Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Salihu Yakubu during courtesy visit.

Comptroller Uba explained that the border closure is also designed to curtail smuggling of petroleum products, rice and other prohibited items.

According to him, the exercise is meant to check illegal trade, so as to encourage growth of local industries in the country.

He said the programme put in place by government to grow agriculture should be embraced by Nigerians, to achieve food sufficiency and promote economic growth.

In his remarks, the Speaker said that some communities within the State are already experiencing scarcity of petrol, following the on-going border closure.

He called on government and authorities involved to address the challenges the people of Kwara State are currently facing because of the exercise.
