CGC Adeniyi, Customs management more than economic think-tank

…Put measures in place to mitigate effects of food scarcity,  astronomical increase in prices of food items 

In a bid to assist the Federal Government in mitigating the effects of food scarcity in the country, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR; and his management team are already acting like economic think-tank, a group of experts coming together to solve problems in the economy, in order to help Government actualise its developmental agenda.

CGC Adeniyi saddled with the core mandates of trade facilitation, revenue collection and anti-smuggling drive, on seeing the astronomical increase in prices of food items in the market, is using his discerning managerial competence to mitigate the effects through direct disposal of food items forfeited to the Federal Government to the public.

The National Public Relations Officer of Customs, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, made this known through a press statement signed by the Service.

The information reads : “In response to the critical challenges of food security and soaring costs of essential food items in Nigeria, the CCG reaffirms his commitment to advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s food security agenda.

“This commitment is deeply rooted in the NCS’s core mandate of serving the best interests of the Nigerian people, thereby fostering economic stability and prosperity.

“In line with this vision, the Service has launched a strategic anti-smuggling operation and public engagement in its commitment to prevent unlawful exportation of vital food resources for individual economic gains. This becomes imperative to safeguard food availability within our nation and alleviate the detrimental effects of scarcity on citizens.

“More so, to alleviate the hardship faced by Nigerians and improve access to essential food items, the Service will also facilitate direct disposal of food items forfeited to the Federal Government.

“These items will be certified fit for consumption by relevant agencies and made available to ordinary Nigerians nationwide through equitable distribution in our Areas of Operations.

“The modalities for disposal will be communicated through NCS formations nationwide, with a firm commitment to transparency, fairness and public safety. It is our pledge that this exercise will be managed diligently to ensure that the benefits reach those mostly in need.

“The Service remains resolute in its dedication to safeguarding the nation’s food security and advancing economic well-being of all Nigerians. With the unwavering support and cooperation of the public, we will surmount these challenges and pave the way for a more prosperous future for our beloved nation”.
