Lagos State Task Force arrests hundreds of trucks for various offences

In effort to enforce the rules of engagement given by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to clear Apapa of gridlock, the Lagos State Task Force Team, under the leadership of the Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Mr Oluwatoyin Fayinka, arrested hundreds of trucks for indiscriminate parking on the roads and without electronic call-up clearance.

The arrested was carried out after stern warning from government for trucks to leave Apapa ports access roads, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, mile-2, second rainbow, coconut bus-stop, Area B and Ijora axis.

Our correspondent, who monitored to know the level of compliance by truckers discovered how truck drivers resisted police, NPA security, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other security officials from towing away trucks parked at coconut bus-stop, Tincan Port area, not minding the NPA electronic call-ups system.

The truck drivers insisted to move their trucks to the ports to carry their cargoes.

The good news about the electronic call-up platform is the creation of eight approved parks, where all trucks would first be kept before being called electronically into the ports.
The electronic clearance system is designed to address the reasons given by the same truck drivers for parking trucks on ports access roads and highways.

Failure of the truck drivers to comply with the rules of engagement, the owners of impounded trucks, according to Lagos State government will have to pay fine before the trucks would be released to them.

Meanwhile, the trucks in question have been taken to LASTMA office, at Oshodi where owners are expecting to pay fine before the trucks are released.
