Comptroller Uba and top officers of Seme Command addressing newsmen recently:

The Customs Area Controller, CAC, of Seme Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Comptroller Mohammed Uba, has mastered the techniques of chasing smugglers to the point of permanently operating in the creeks this yuletide period,  in a bid to protect his area of coverage from influx of contraband.

Financial Business inquest revealed that Seme Command, the border between Nigeria and Republic of Benin is a swampy terrain with numerous bush paths.  As such, Comptroller Uba and his team strategically moved their operations to the creeks, to thwart the antics of economic saboteurs, who may try to smuggle prohibited items into the country from Seme axis, this yuletide period.

More so, Comptroller Uba disclosed, “We have reinforced patrol teams along the creeks, bush paths with extra intelligence drawn up and the number of informants doubled to contain the situation this festive period”.

He emphasized, “I am on ground 24 hours, apart from the DC enforcement, CSC operations and other enforcement officers strategically positioned to ensure that no stone is left unturned”.

He pointed out, “The outcome of these measures will soon be made public in January 2019.”

The CAC went on, “Last week, we took a tour to Badagry West local government area in furtherance of solidarity and sensitisation to the people on the dangers of smuggling to the nation’s economy.

“We also had meetings with traditional rulers of some local governments, all towards cooperation, advising and warning against economic sabotage, which the Command will not tolerate, no matter the level of provocation.”

Seme CAC stressed, “We must continue to carry out our duties of facilitating legitimate trade, generating revenue for the Federal Government and anti-smuggling operations at all times”.
