The Federal Operations Unit, FOU, Zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, is strengthening its operational strategies to ensure that smugglers do not take advantage of the Yuletide period to bring it prohibited items  through its area of coverage.

The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Unit, Jerry Attah, made this known in Lagos.

He emphasized that the Customs Area Controller, CAC, of the Unit, Comptroller Mohammed Aliyu and other officers are working assiduously to protect FOU Zone ‘A’ from nefarious activities of smugglers throughout this month of December, 2018.

He said, “This is festive period where a lot of commercial activities take place in the country. As such, our men are solidly on ground to check the activities of unrepentant smugglers seeing this period as the best time to sabotage the nation’s economy.”

He stressed, “At FOU zone ‘A’, enforcement is one of our core functions and we are alert 24 hours to protect our area of coverage from illicit trade.”

In the same vein, Attah advised Nigerians to be careful about what they consume this festive period.

He said, “We are advising Nigerians not to consume food items capable of causing them health hazards.  For instance, rice consumption. Let us support government’s policy on agriculture by buying locally made rice in the country.”
