Expectations are high, as Comptroller Francis Adetoye, sits atop the Port Terminal Multi-services Logistics, PTML Command, of Nigeria Customs Service, as the new Customs Area Controller, CAC.
Some maritime stakeholders who spoke with Financial Business at PTML Command said such expectations include his ability to reposition the Command for greater productivity, by raising the tempo of trade facilitation with a fresh impetus, ensuring compliance with the Presidental directive on ease of doing business, faciltating trade in line with global best practice and revenue generation for the Federal Government.
Stakeholders are of the opinion that trade facilitation is one of the core functions of Customs, in that capacity, the new CAC while putting measures in place to enhance revenue generation for government, should strengthen the trade facilitation structure of PTML for increased economic output.
Accordingly, looking at his previous position as the CAC of Adamawa /Taraba Command, from April, 2017 to April, 2018, the records revealed that Comptroller Adetoye, succeeded in suppressing smuggling to its barest minimum, during his one year tenure at that Command.
Financial Business gathered from a credible source that the Command under his watch realised over 69 seizures, with a Duty Paid Value, DPV, of over N124,513,527.70. Some of the seizures recorded include smuggled Petroleum products, foreign rice, second hand clothing, elephant tusks, used vehicles and tricycle boat engines among other items.
In the same vein, the Command under the supervision of Comptroller Adetoye, recorded revenue generatation of N104,446,746,40 from April, 2017 to April, 2018.
Financial Business also learnt that in January 2018, the Command raked in N20,508,591.27, which exceeded its monthly revenue target of N16,400.00 with N4,062,788.27 increase.
On the whole, importers and agents are looking forward to see how Comptroller Adetoye will bring his experience into action in turing PTML Command around for greater development.
