The Apapa Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, is in the news again. The Command has been honoured with the prestigious World Customs Organisation, WCO, Award for exceptional performance in 2018.

The Award bestowed on the Command, at the International Customs Day, in Abuja by the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC, Ali Hameed, is described by many maritime stakeholders and senior officers at Apapa, as an honour well-deserved, especially following the Command’s outstanding records in revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations in the last quarter of 2018.

The WCO Award is coming only few months after Comptroller Abubakar Bashir and his men made a mind boggling seizure of 41 containers of Tramadol, worth over N7.3billion, which attracted attention of the whole country to the Command.

Most remarkably, Comptroller Bashir and his team rejected N150 million bride offered them by  importer of the seized Tramadol, putting national interest, as well as the health condition of Nigerians above personal gains.

Some officers at Apapa, in a chat with Financial Business commended Comptroller Bashir for his exemplary leadership, hard work and resilience, which brought about operational efficiency and alertness to official duties by officers of Apapa Customs.
