…As President Tinubu addresses the nation, sets to empower 400.000 young Nigerians in consumer credit scheme

As Nigeria celebrates 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has said that Journalists should practice responsible journalism.

He made this known during the celebration of 26 years of Constitutional Governance by the National Assembly, adding that newsmen should ensure responsible reportage on economic activities of the country.

He revealed that the Senate has passed 19 bills in two years.

Speaking further, Senator Akpabio praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for his visionary leadership and the courage to revamp the nation’s economy despite criticisms.

In the same vein, the President addressed joint session of the National Assembly. He allays the fear of one-party system going on in some quarters.

His exact words : “At no time in the past, or in future shall I hold a one- party State. I will be the last person to advocate one party scheme.”

On economic reforms, he said :
“The economy and social development of the country must not be compromised.

“States must stop going about to borrow money to pay salaries.

“Inflation is easing gradually and stabilising the price of food.

“This July, we will empower 400.000 young Nigerians in consumer credit.

“We will provide tools for our youths to compete in the global economy. We are making agriculture better, and will improve food security.

“We must always follow dialogue. Democracy requires a fair degree of tolerance.

“We are creating a new environment in which industry and manufacturing can thrive.

“National security is the foundation of peace and progress. We will invest in infrastructure and technology to secure every part of the nation.

“We thank the women and men of the armed forces for ensuring the safety of citizens. We must work together and believe Nigeria can, and will rise again”.

The President conferred National Honours on prominent Nigerians, including veteran Journalists.

His words :
“We must endeavour to hand over the banner to our children and grandchildren without stain.”
