To say that the Public Relations Officers of Nigeria Customs Service are workaholics is simply stating the facts. Yes, they are workaholics in uniforms. They work valorously without complaining or giving up. They work tirelessly behind the scene to protect the image of their Commands.

The Customs PROs, by words and actions, have demonstrated that they are men and women who have dedicated themselves to the service of their fatherland across all Customs formations in the country.

As such, they display complete loyalty in carrying out official functions. For instance, during the year 2024, there were occasions when the Area Controllers were occupied with other official engagements, and the PROs effectively gave out important information needed by maritime traders, as well as Journalists reporting activities in the maritime sector of the economy.

The first thing you observe when entering the office of Customs PROs is the manner in which they work assiduously. You will see them carrying office files, attending to stakeholders coming for inquiries, responding to Journalists looking for information, and handling statutory duties with smiling faces, even when they are tired. They carry out many duties all at the same time.

Their ability to handle multiple tasks and achieve the desired result stands them out everywhere they go.

Our Correspondent in her field assignments observed that the Customs PROs are often vulnerable to verbal abuse by impatient stakeholders coming to their Commands for one thing, or another; yet they maintain the right decorum, even in the face of provocation. Their level of tolerance and endurance is second to none.

At present, the Nigeria Customs Service under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has collected over N5trillion for the Federal Government. This huge revenue collection is a significant milestone indeed, and it will interest us to know that the Customs PROs are part of this success story.

Certainly, the PROs are not only part of this success story, but also active part of economic recovery of the entire Nigerian nation because they work valorously with their Area Controllers in promoting economic growth and development.

It is common knowledge that Customs PROs stay longer hours at work, while some of them even work on weekends.

kudos to CGC Adeniyi, whose transformational leadership is equally impacting positively on the entire PR Unit of the Service, even as he ensures regular training and retraining programmes for all Public Relations Officers to enhance their efficiency at work.

Today, Customs PROs in Nigeria are rated very high within and outside the shores of Nigeria. They can compete favourably with their counterparts globally.
