The Lagos Free Trade Zone Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has recorded remarkable performance in revenue collection for the Federal Government, with a whopping sum of N238billion realised from January to September 2024.

Aside this giant stride in revenue collection, the Command has
prioritised quick cargo clearance to enhance trade facilitation.

Our News inquiry revealed that Lagos Free Trade Zone Command under the watch of Comptroller Olanrewaju Olumoh, as Customs Area Controller, is constantly promoting seamless cargo clearance, which has contributed immensely to astronomical increase in revenue collection for the period under review.

For instance, the Command collected over N115 billion revenue in the first half of 2024, (January to June), and has recorded continuous increase in revenue generation since the beginning of the year.

Recall that the initial revenue target given to the Free Trade Zone Command was N108.84 billion, before it was reviewed to N136.05 billion for 2024.

Thus, looking at the huge sum of N238billion collected in the third quarter of 2024, and the alotted revenue target, it is quite clear that Comptroller Olanrewaju Olumoh has performed creditably in his statutory responsibilities.

Also, the Area Controller holds periodic stakeholders engagement with Port users to address any concern relating to their job. An example of such engagement was the recent meeting at the Zone, where Comptroller Olumoh explained the economic benefits of establishing a Free Trade Zone.
His words : “The benefits of a Free Trade Zone include inflow of foreign direct investments, technology transfer and creating jobs for the citizens, among others”.

Comptroller Olumoh also stressed the importance of working collaboration with stakeholders and other sister agencies to achieve a common goal.
He asserted; “It is imperative to keep sensitising freight agents and zone operators on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Free Zones. This is very important to enhance their compliance level and improve their capacity towards better service delivery.

“Here at the Zone, we are operating an open-door policy where we can entertain meaningful contributions to move the Command forward,”
