2024 year of stakeholders : Comptroller Nnadi addresses maritime traders at TinCan Port

The Customs Area Controller of TinCan Island Port Command,
Compt Dera Nnadi mni, has emphasised the need for stakeholders doing business at TinCan Port to maintain a high level of compliance with government policies, especially as the nation’s economy enters the ember months.

In doing this, Compt Nnadi took a pragmatic step in addressing relevant stakeholders on the new modalities about what is expected of maritime traders doing business in the Command daily.

The stakeholders’ engagement, which took place on September 30, 2024, was a well thought-out initiative by Compt Nnadi, as the meeting had a large turn out of stakeholders who interacted eye-to-eye with the Area Controller and his team.

In his speech, Compt Nnadi fondly called the Action Area Controller, spoke emphatically on the theme for year 2024, which is “A year For Stakeholders”. He stressed that the well-being of all stakeholders doing business at TinCan Port remains a top priority to him, the Command and the Service at large.

The Area Controller highlighted activities undertaken by TinCan Command under his watch in 2024, reminding stakeholders to ensure total compliance as the year enters the last quarter.

Speaking further, the Action CAC appreciated the efforts put in by all stakeholders to ensure that the revenue target for 2024 is achieved.

He pointed out :  “The Command takes cognisance of the struggles stakeholders go through during the ember season, especially towards the end of the year, honest declarations from compliant traders will not have issues of delay, but those who think they can circumvent the system should have themselves to blame, as cutting corners will not be allowed at TinCan Command”.

He explained that all new bonded terminals domincile in TCIP have space available for stakeholders, while they go about their businesses, but at the headquarters, such space has not been created.

Compt Nnadi promised to look critically at the issue, as renovations are on-going in the premises. He advised stakeholders to keep the operating environment clean, pending when new waste bins will be distributed at designated areas, as a clean environment portrays a healthy lifestyle and a productive economy.

The stakeholders’ engagement was a huge success. The Area Controller gave ample opportunity for question and answer segment, even as he addressed all concerns raised by the stakeholders.
