The Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu PhD, has demonstrated exceptional comradeship, bravery and resilience on the line of duty in generating revenue for the Federal Government to keep the nation’s economy afloat, with a huge sum of N1.2trillion realised in seven months.

Most remarkable, Compt Olomu recorded outstanding revenue collection of N201,853,406,964.61, approximately N201.9billion in the month of July 2024 alone, being the highest monthly collection in the history of Nigeria Customs Service.

The premier port Command under the leadership of Compt Olomu made this feat despite the challenges facing the economy at present.

The Area Controller, who disclosed this today Wednesday, August 7, 2024, said his officers and men are poised to breaking more records of revenue collection for economic growth and development.

Recall that while most offices are under lock and key following the on-going nationwide protest, Compt Olomu and his team are on their duties posts, carrying out their statutory duties without wavering.

More so, Compt Olomu is walking the talk, because on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Compt Olomu held a strategic meeting with stakeholders at Apapa, assuring port users that Apapa Customs Command remains operational 24 hours irrespective of the nation wide protest.

Compt Olomu stressed that he is committed to surpassing the existing records of revenue collection

He explained that the N1.2trillion revenue collected for seven months in 2024, is higher than the total amount realised from January to December, 2023.

The Area Controller attributed the successes recorded by Apapa Command so far to implementation of the policy thrust of the Comptroller General of Customs, focusing on time release study to facilitate trade without delay. This initiative, according to him, yielded outstanding results, which reflects in the Command’s revenue collection.

Expressing confidence in the Command’s ability to do better, Comptroller Olomu enthused, “I am optimistic about the possibility of beating this record as we look forward to surpassing it in months to come.

“For the first seven months of 2024, that is January to July this year, the Apapa Area Command generated a total of N1,227,431,323,016.24.
What has been generated so far in seven months is above the total collected revenue by the Command in 2023, which was N1,172,414,793,960.32.

“In clear terms, our 2024 seven months collection is above last year’s twelve months total collection. Worthy of note is the interventions from the Tariff and Trade Department, which contributed immensely to the successes achieved thus far.

“Our compliance desk, dispute resolution team, Valuation, PCA, CIU and other units aimed at promoting seamless trade have been reinvigorated with daily,weekly and monthly evaluation by my office to oversee the progress we are making”.

He went on: “We are committed to doing more in line with the directives and motivating examples of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR dsm psc (+). Apapa Command handles the highest volume of trade for the NCS, collects the highest revenue, and therefore is saddled with a higher degree of expectation from the Service management and the government”.
