…As Customs at Lagos Free Zone joins NDLEA in the walk against illicit drug trafficking

The Customs Area Controller of Lagos Free Zone Command, Comptroller Olanrewaju Olumoh, has raised the bar in inter-agency collaboration, demonstrating unwavering commitment in strengthening working synergy with sister agencies for effective operations.

Compt Olumoh displayed this pragmatically as he led his Command to join National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the walk against illicit drug trafficking.

The exercise, which was the grand finale of week-long activities to commemorate the UN Day celebration against illicit drug trafficking and abuse was held by NDLEA, Lekki Deep Sea Port Command, yesterday Wednesday June 26, 2024, with a Road Walk.

The Road Walk was a well thought-out initiative carried out to sensitise the public within the port corridors on the dangers of drug abuse, and was well attended by Lekki Port management, as well as collaborating agencies

The event was declared open by Compt Olumoh (Dr), who physically participated in the entire exercise.

the International Day Against Drug Abuse 2024, had a unique theme : ‘The Evidence Is Clear- Invest In Prevention’.

The theme of that important exercise was designed to send a strong warning signal on the dangers and devastating effects of drug abuse in the society, thereby making different
countries in the world to map out policies and strategies to curb drug abuse in all ramifications.

Speaking during the exercise, Compt Olumoh began by commending various organisations that participated in the Walk.

Dr Lanrewaju Olumoh applauded the
Heads of other collaborating agencies and their respective personnel; such as the Nigerian Police, DSS, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, NIMASA, Nigerian Ports Authority, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Quarantine Service, National Association of Patent Medicine Dealers (NAPMED),
and other agencies that graced the momentous event, urging them to jointly spread the message of abstinence from drug abuse.

The Area Commander, Lekki Deep Sea Port, Jonah Achema, CN, while welcoming participants for the Road Walk, emphasised on the importance of the theme, ‘The Evidence is Clear, Invest in Prevention’.

He pointed out : “The havoc that drug abuse does to our society is huge. It creates a lot of social dislocations, that is why all of us must see it as a collective responsibility to partner with NDLEA in the fight against illicit drugs.

“I want to believe that we had to a very remarkable extent raised awareness about drug abuse in our vicinity.”

The Road Walk recorded tremendous success, as the exercise commenced at the port gate with Compt Olumoh, his team and participating agencies moving through Dangote Refinery junction up to Pinnacle Oil and Gas junction.

Going forward, the Area Controller said the Command will extend the sensitisation exercise to schools within the port corridors and beyond.
