As Customs officer dies in House of Reps during engagement 

The sad news reaching our platform this moment reveals that a Customs officer identified as Essien Etop Andrew is dead.

Late Essien Etop, who was on the rank of Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC), slumped and died during engagement in the House of Representatives.

Until his death, DC Essien Etop was the officer in charge of Finance Administration & Technical Service department of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS.

The report has it that the deceased appeared before the House of Representatives for questioning about the on-going probe on Revenue Generating Agencies, but suddenly slumped, and was immediately taken to National Assembly clinic in Abuja, where he gave up his last breath.

More so, an official statement issued by the Spokesman of the House, Mr. Akin Rotimi reads; “It is with deep sadness and regret that we confirm the passing of an esteemed official of Nigeria Customs Service, who was at the National Assembly for an engagement with a House Committee.

“During the engagement that occurred by 1.00 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the officer suddenly developed health complications.

“Notwithstanding the immediate efforts of medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately passed away.

“The House of Representatives extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased during this difficult time. We recognise the significant contributions he made to the Nigeria Customs Service and our nation.

“The House of Representatives is ready to support efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and is cooperating fully with all relevant authorities to ensure all necessary protocols are followed”.
