The Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR,
has demonstrated transformative leadership during his one year in office, as he generated a whopping sum of over N4.49trillion for the Federal Government to run the economy.

This exceptional performance is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria Customs Service, portraying CGC Adeniyi as a competent administrator and a technocrat on the leadership saddle of Customs

The Customs Boss, while revealing the revenue figures, also highlighted outstanding achievements of the Service under his watch in the last one year, saying the amount was realised from June 2023 to May 2024.

Speaking further, the CGC, whose leadership acumen is anchored on consolidation, innovation and collaboration, stressed that Customs under his supervision has become turbo charged in fighting smuggling, drug trafficking, as well as all forms of illicit trades at ports and border stations across the country.

Also, the Service had sustained increase of about 70.13 percent in average monthly revenue collection since the current Customs Boss assumed office, and monthly revenue generation of about N343 billion in the past one year, which is higher than N202 billion collected the same period the previous year.

In June, the Service recorded N58.5 billion on June 13, 2024, showing tremendous increase in revenue collection, following strategic initiatives brought to bear by the Service in its operations.

For instance, those measures included N15 billion recovered by Revenue Review Performance Recovery exercise, N2.79 billion recovered from the 90-day window for regularisation of documents of uncustomed vehicles, N1.5 billion recovered from 1,705 overtime containers, and 981 vehicles from the seaports”.

It’s noteworthy to mention that aside revenue collection, the Service made impressive performance in anti-smuggling, which paved the way for mind-boggling seizures of different prohibited items, including 63 seizures of animal and wildlife products with monetary value of more than N566 million.

Others included seizures of arms, ammunition and dangerous drugs at the ports and border stations, with a total of 127 cases of narcotics and pharmaceutical products worth over N6 billion, 724 seizures, involving 2.93 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which were about to be smuggled out of the country by economic saboteurs.

More so, the Service performed excellently in trade facilitation, national security, inter-agency collaboration and regular stakeholders engagement.
