The Eastern Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, is poised for greater productivity, as the new Customs Area Controller, CAC, Comptroller Chika DIM, is bringing intelligence and fresh impetus to bear in activities of the Command.

Comptroller DIM, who is highly skilled in anti-smuggling operations, is already rejigging his modus-operandi by strengthening working synergy with sister security agencies within his area of responsibilities.

Following these strategic and pragmatic approaches in deepening inter-agency collaboration for effective operations, Comptroller DIM has gone on a familiarisation tour of sister security agencies.

Impressively, the new CAC, who just resumed at the Eastern Marine Command of Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt, had already made several courtesy visits to top security agencies, which began on Thursday, May 2, 2024.

Comptroller DIM, emphasised that the working tour becomes imperative to cement ties and further strengthen existing bonds of collaboration between his Command and the relevant agencies.

Reputable agencies visited during the tour included the Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Immigration Service, the Director of State Security Services, the Federal Road Safety Corps and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, among others.

However, the most important visit was to the Nigerian Navy NNS Pathfinder in the maritime domain, where discussion centered on measures needed to curb criminalities on the waterways.

During these meetings, DIM extolled the leadership virtues of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, stressing that Eastern Marine Command under his watch will continue to work in tandem with the CGC’s vision of consolidation, innovation and collaboration, to support the Service in achieving its objectives.

Speaking further, Comptroller DIM highlighted the need for joint patrols, intelligence sharing, as well as capacity building for the personnel to  work in synergy, to achieve their common goal of promoting national security and protecting the nation’s borders.

The new Area Controller pointed out  the importance of inter- agency cooperation and the need to work together to combat illicit activities such as smuggling, illegal migration, and drug trafficking.

Remarkably, the visits were well received by various sister agencies, with promises of continuous cooperation and support for Nigeria Customs Service. The CAC also expressed readiness to work closely with these agencies to promote  seamless coordination of operations within Eastern Marine domain.

The tour was a huge success, as the courtesy calls were seen as a positive step towards better working relationships between the Service and sister security agencies, as they endeavour to secure the nation’s borders and promote economic development.

Comptroller Chika DIM assured that his Command will step up security surveillance across the entire Eastern Marine axis, in order to thwart nefarious activities of economic saboteurs.
