Border security :  Compt Shauibu rejigs strategy

…holds inter-border stakeholders security meeting at Idiroko

The Customs Area Controller of Ogun 1 Command, Comptroller Ahmadu Shuaibu, has rejigged the security strategy in his area of responsibilities. This becomes imperative to strengthen inter-agency border security at Idiroko, the border between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

To achieve this renewed initiative, the Command under the leadership of Compt Shuaibu, held a strategic meeting with other security agencies to brainstorm on issues concerning peace, safety and cordial working relationship among security agencies within the border communities.

The inter-agency border security Forum led by Compt Shuaibu, brought together his security counterparts in Republic of Benin, community leaders, as well as youths within Idiroko axis.

The security Forum, which took place yesterday, March 27, 2024, at Idiroko, was well attended, even as the meeting also involved the Secretary General of Inter-Border Security Forum, Dr Bonny A Botoku, who mediated between the two countries.

Most importantly, the inter-agency, security meeting was convened to address issues militating against the cooperation and peace enjoyed by security agencies of both countries. After exhaustive deliberations, the meeting ended with peaceful resolutions.

Some of the recommendations made included the following; the community Chiefs and the Youth leaders were advised to educate their people on motorcycle regulations and traffic laws being enforced by Republic of Benin Police operatives.

Agreement was reached by the security agencies at Idiroko border to assist in enforcing Benin Republic traffic laws by restricting the movement of traffic offenders crossing over to Benin.

Prohibition of Idiroko youths against jungle justice and enjoining them to report any suspected civil case to the Nigerian Police, Idiroko Divisional Office or any other security agency at the border.

Recall that this strategic inter-border stakeholders security meeting is coming just few weeks after Compt Shuaibu and his enforcement team uncovered 940 rounds of live ammunition ingeniously concealed in bags of garri. Ogun 1 Command under Ahmadu Shuaibu is making giant strides in stepping up security surveillance continuously at the border to protect the nation’s economy from influx of offensive items.
