.. Applauds CGC Adeniyi on historic Customs Day celebration
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has said that the E-call up system introduced to ensure orderly movement of trucks going into Apapa ports has been compromised.
The Minister openly made this declaration while giving his keynote address, during the International Customs Day 2024 celebration, organised by Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), at Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos.
Oyetola, who was the Special Guest of honour, made that assertion in response to a comment made by the President, Nigerian Guild of Editors, on perennial traffic gridlock caused by tankers on ports access roads, which he said impedes movement of containers out of the ports, thereby hindering trade facilitation and more revenue collection for government.
The words of the Minister, “Your observation is right. However, people have been assigned the task of clearing Apapa road to ensure traffic flow on that axis; and they are working on it.
“Another thing is the attitude of our people who do not allow certain things put in place to work as expected. For instance, the E-call up system has been compromised, which contributed to the congestion on Apapa road.
“At present, we are encouraging consignees to make use of the dry ports that are connected by the rail system. That way, congestion on Apapa road will be minimised.”
Speaking further, the Minister applauded the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, on the exceptional manner he celebrated the International Customs Day 2024.
Oyetola described the occasion as special and historic, praising CGC Adeniyi for aligning his agenda of consolidation, innovation and collaboration with the vision of the renewed hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in economic growth.
Also, the Minister commended Customs under the leadership of CGC Adeniyi, on what he described as a paradigm shift in putting priority on scanning of containers instead of physical examination. This, he said, fosters seamless cargo clearance from the ports like what obtains in the global trend.
