Comptroller Dera Nnadi mni, the Customs Area Controller, CAC, TinCan Island Port Command can be described as an officer with super Eagle-Eye. His Eagle-Eye is exceptionally sharp and capable of seeing prohibited items; including arms, ammunition, even illicit drugs from extreme distances, no matter where they are concealed.

That was exactly what played out yesterday, at the Enforcement Unit of TinCan Port, Lagos, as the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, unveiled massive seizures of dangerous drugs recorded by the Command in collaboration with National Drug Law EnforcementAgency (NDLEA).

Most outstanding was the use of high level operational intelligence to trail the arms, ammunition and Cocaine from Port of loading until interception in Nigeria, at Tincan Island Port.

The summary of the deadly cargoes given by CGC Adeniyi included 56.39kg of Cocaine valued at N 2,368,380,000, 955kg of Colorado Indica valued at 1,911,400,000, all with street value of N4.279billion (approximately N4.3billion).

Some of the seized items were imported from Canada and others from Durban South Africa.

These spectacular seizures made by Tincan Command have again saved the Nigerian nation from negative effect of hard drugs, especially on youths, who are the most vulnerable ones in the society.

Compt Nnadi has also demonstrated pragmatically that he is balancing revenue collection for the Federal Government at TinCan Port with anti-smuggling operations, to protect the nation from activities of fraudulent importers and economic saboteurs.

Thus, illicit traders, who tried to play smart by bringing hard drugs, arms and ammunition into the country, thinking that Compt Nnadi is carried away by the revenue target of N1.130 trillion must be totally disappointed by now with such wrong assumption.

Nnadi is a no-nonsense and uncompromising enforcement officer with a strong character.
Aside his ingenuity in trade facilitation and revenue collection for government, he is popularly known as anti-smuggling czar.

He believes strongly in the growth and development of the Nigerian economy; and will do everything within his power to move the nation forward.

Compt Nnadi has outstanding records of anti-smuggling feats in various Customs formations, especially at
TinCan Port., where he was the former DC of Enforcement. As such, smugglers must realise that with Nnadi as the Area Controller, TinCan Port is a no-go area for hanky-panky, because he abhors dishonesty and will deal decisively with anyone trying to circumvent the law in any way.

Speaking further, CGC Adeniyi emphasised the importance of effective collaboration, commending the working synergy between Customs and NDLEA. He added; “NCS and NDLEA remain steadfast in our commitment to enhance ongoing collaborations aimed at eradicating criminal elements from the society.

“We will persist in extending intelligence, network and capabilities both nationally and internationally. The collective objective is to thoroughly eliminate these criminal elements, ensuring the society is rid of their detrimental influence. ”

More so, the CGC handed over the dangerous drugs to NDLEA for further investigation.
