ANLCA Crisis : CGC Adeniyi making the impossibility possible

In creation, nature and control over natural elements, only the Almighty God has supreme powers to make what appears as impossibility, possible.

But in the case of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), one man has been able to bring peace to the crisis, face off, rancour, conflict of interest and internal wrangling, which rocked the organisation for several years.

The crisis in ANLCA, which prompted total closure of the National Secretariat of the association on many occasions, has finally been resolved through dialogue.

The intervention of Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, brought peace to the protracted crisis in ANLCA, which at a point defied all solutions. Some years back, the wrangling in ANLCA was so tough that not even efforts by Marine Police Boss, top industry players, elders of the association and stakeholders in the maritime sector could broker peace for the factions to ceasefire.

However, CGC Adeniyi, through his ingenuity, skills in conflict resolution and managerial acumen brought peace to the warring factions of the Association.

Today, normalcy has returned to ANLCA, as newly elected management team paid a working visit to the Customs Boss in Abuja.

During the visit, CGC Adeniyi urged newly elected leaders of the Association to consider their peculiar privilege in sustaining peace amongst them, which, according to him, will encourage the Service to take them as important partners.

His words : “I want to use this opportunity to rekindle the good understanding and peace between yourselves, so that we will be able to synergise in eradicating threats against revenue collection and national security.

“The ball is now in the coat of the executive, new management committee; and of course, the board members. I urge you to swing into action and start work because there is much to do, to bring sanity and professionalism to the industry.”

He added : “Nigeria Customs Service is willing to collaborate with you to ensure successful facilitation of trade.
We are going to hold a meeting with Customs Agents, to ensure that we bring the required sanity into our operations.”

On his part, Mr. Hakeem Olanrewaju, the Chairman of Customs Consultative Committee, who led the delegation, said they were at the Corporate Headquarters of Customs to present the newly elected National Executive Council of ANLCA to the CGC.

Mr Olanrewaju, congratulated the CGC on his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even as he assured the CGC that the Association has been put back on the rail, after a long period of experiencing internal conflicts.

He enthused;  “with intervention of the Comptroller General of Customs, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents has embraced a collaborative peace.”

With the peace that exists in ANLCA at present, CGC Adeniyi has achieved  another mile stone within just 90 days in office. ANLCA crisis, which brought up several Court cases, violent attacks on officials, as well as the secretariat has finally been settled with the wisdom of CGC Adeniyi.
