High Expectations  : As Compt Umar Abubakar Emerges New Customs Boss of Katsina Command

The Katsina Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service is in the news again. The Command, which is known for consistent anti-smuggling drive is in the news this time for change of leadership.

The change of Baton in Katsina Customs  Command  few days ago followed the recent appointment and redeployment of some management members and Area Controllers by the Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for optimal operational efficiency.

In that capacity, Katsina Area Command was not left out of the exercise, as Compt Muhammed Umar Abubakar was deployed to the Command.

Looking at the feats recorded by the Command in anti-smuggling operations so far, expectations are high, as Compt Umar steps on the saddle, as the new Area Controller.

Precisely, on September 13, 2023, Compt Umar Abubakar formally took over as the new Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Katsina Command from his predecessor, Compt. M. N. Musa.

His background :
Compt Umar is a native of Bauchi State. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaira.

He was enlisted into the Service as an Assistant Superintendent of Customs in 1989.

He attended several courses both within and outside the country. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria.

Compt Umar is a seasoned officer with vast experience in Customs operations. His posting to Katsina State gives an assurance that the Command will improve on its core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling.

Before his promotion to the rank of Comptroller, he was once an Acting Controller, Special Duties at the Headquarters Abuja. He also served as a substantive Controller of Plateau/Nassarawa/Benue, Kano/Jigawa.

Until his present posting, he was Controller Adminsitrations at the Zonal Headquarters, Zone B Kaduna.

In his remarks, the CAC thanked CGC Adeniyi and his management team for the privilege to serve the nation as controller of Katsina Area Command. He promised to uphold the highest standard of professionalism and work ethics.

He further charged officers and men of the Command to be disciplined and show professionalism while discharging their duties.
