...Tilly Gyado, the face of patriotism
From historical perspective, the new Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command (KLTC), Compt Martina Tilly Gyado is driving the wheel of leadership on a familiar terrain.
She has served Customs in various formations, including KLTC, where she now sits atop as the new Customs Boss.
Not too long ago, Compt Tilly Gyado worked with the former CAC of KLTC,
Hammi Swomen, who is currently ACG, serving in Customs headquarters, Abuja.
In the first quarter of year 2021, Compt Tilly Gyado was in Hammi Swomen’s team that made spectacular seizure of 16,920 expired bottled water, smuggled into Nigeria illegally. That same period, they realised a whopping sum of over N7.9 billion revenue for the Federal Government, despite the challenge faced by the Command on lack of access road.
That particular seizure saved Nigerians from what could have caused a serious health disaster by the killer water, that had expired several months before being shipped illegally into Nigeria.
Today, the same Compt Tilly Gyado, is the CAC of KLTC. Her emergence as KLTC Customs Boss perfectly fits the postulation of Behavioural Theory by Mr. John Watson, which states that; “an individual can become a great leader through learnable behaviour and skills acquired over time”.
Yes, Compt Tilly Gyado has over the years shown dedication to Nigeria Customs Service. she has displayed complete loyalty, patriotism and above all hard work. Her current appointment as CAC of KLTC is purely by merit of performance. Also, she has a like-able personality with discipline and integrity embedded in her womanhood.
Also, worthy of recognition is the wisdom of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, in looking inward and even beyond gender in deployment of Area Controllers.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony at KLTC, the outgoing CAC Compt Timinadi Bomodi, said the Command from January to mid-September 2023, raked in N36.93 billion, representing 22.44% increase when compared to N30.16 billion generated the same period in 2022.
He noted that it represents 59.37% of the total expected revenue for 2023.
Mrs. Tilly Gyado in her response, thanked God and CGC Adeniyi, for finding her worthy of the appointment and promised to meet the management’s expectations.
The new CAC stated that her leadership will adopt emotional intelligence strategies and apply Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis in addressing matters of revenue collection, anti-smuggling, trade facilitation and robust stakeholders engagement to improve compliance.
