The handing over ceremony, which took place on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Apapa Customs Command has come and gone, but the memory of that colourful event will linger for long in the minds of attendees.

Aside from presentation of the Command’s impressive score card in revenue collection, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling drive,
it was a time to express boldness, as well as readiness for statutory responsibilities.

The out-going Area Controller, ACG Auwal Mohammed, currently in charge of Technical Services at Customs headquarters, Abuja, handed over the Command with a huge revenue profile of N676billion, while Compt Babajide Jaiyeoba, the newly deployed Customs Area Controller (CAC), received the leadership responsibility with so much boldness, without wavering.

Compt Jaiyeoba mounted the saddle of leadership at Apapa Command with courage, bravery and strong determination to carry out his duties effectively.

He told the gathering of senior officers, freight agents, maritime traders, stakeholders and the media that he came well prepared for the job.

To him, revenue collection for the Federal Government, especially at a premier port like Apapa has its challenges, but such obstacles can be surmountable with teamwork and dedication.

Compt Jaiyeoba, who is coming from Oyo/Osun formation, said repeatedly that he is not afraid of challenges.

His words : “I am not afraid of challenges. I know that it is not going to be easy but we will work as a team to improve on achievements already made by my predecessors.

”If we get it right, the country will be better, especially grappling with dwindling oil revenue. So I am ready to pick up the gantlet.

“We will run an open door policy. My doors are always open, especially to the critical stakeholders.
We will collaborate with other security agencies for maximum results.”
