How TinCan Customs Boss, Compt Oloyede saved Nigerians from the killer drugs

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has produced many intelligent officers, Comptroller Adekunle Adewale Oloyede is one of them. Oloyede, who is the current Customs Area Controller (CAC), TinCan Island Port Command, has made the Service proud with his assiduousness and uncompromising attitude in carrying out his statutory duties.

In trade facilitation, he is a guru. In revenue collection, he is highly skilled. In ICT and Customs modernisation, he is an expert. In anti-smuggling, he is highly experienced.

His exceptional performance in TinCan Island Port has endeared him to numerous stakeholders in the maritime industry, who are always proud of his expertise in Customs operations, especially trade facilitation and ICT.

Just yesterday, August 28, 2023, he unveiled massive seizure of illicit drugs intercepted by his team at TinCan Port.

With that swift intervention,
Compt Oloyede and his team saved Nigerians from the killer drugs. They averted what would have caused another health disaster in the nation, by seizing the 2x40ft containers laden with illicit drugs, smuggled into the country without appropriate permits from NAFDAC.

Through intelligence, Compt Oloyede monitored the shipment of these dangerous drugs until arrival of the vessel in TinCan Island Container Terminal. Most commendable is the ingenuity he deployed to track the deadly cargo, notwithstanding the level of concealment, even as he rejected the N50million bribe offered by the importer to escape security checks in the port.

With the massive seizure of illicit drugs worth over N550.3million in monetary value, Compt Oloyede has prevented influx of large quantities of dangerous drugs from entering the local markets and causing serious health and security risks in the system

In fact, with the likes of Compt Oloyede and other skilled officers, Customs under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi is on the right trajectory to greater heights.

His Rising Profile :
Compt is a seasoned officer, who has served Customs in various capacities within and outside the shores of Nigeria.

Compt Oloyede as a Customs officer is result oriented. He is a trained Engineer with Master’s Degree in various fields of transport management.

His intelligence from different courses attended locally, regionally and internationally earned him the responsibility of holding three offices when he was Comptroller in Customs headquarters. There, he was charged with the responsibility as
Comptroller ICT, Comptroller Risk management and Comptroller Modernisation.

The team he headed in Customs headquarters ICT department, worked tirelessly under his close supervision to develop Apps that were approved by the Service and in use at present.

These include e-emolument App; VIN-valuation App (846) and Webb tracker App. These Apps after implementation gave feedbacks that have improved administrative and operational efficiency in the Service, especially in the seaports where they have been deployed.

More so, Oloyede is highly respected in the Service as epitome of professionalism. Also, a Resourse Person at different capacities within and outside the Service.
The depth of his knowledge, intelligence, capacity as a team player and vast experience in issues within trade and Engineering sectors is outstanding. He operates an open-door policy to discuss with all on any issue that enhances trade facilitation in line with the Service mandate.

Many Customs officers working with him have benefitted greatly from his fountain of knowledge.
