Customs at Murtala Muhammed Area Command makes impressive performance in revenue collection

...Rakes in N38.7bn, records N27.8bn seizures

The Murtala Muhammed Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has made impressive performance in revenue collection, with a whopping sum of N38.7billion raked in the federation account.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Compt M. S. Yusuf made these details known, said the N38.7billion was collected from January to June 2023.

Our correspondent gathered that the N38.7billion revenue generation
represents 79.6 percent of the annual revenue target met under the dynamic leadership of Compt Yusuf.

When compared to the same period in 2022 revenue of N34.9billion, a progressive difference of N3.9billion was recorded, which represents 11percent increase in revenue collection.

On anti-smuggling drive, the Command made remarkable successes in the first half of 2023. The Enforcement Unit of the Command coordinated several anti-smuggling activities in synergy with other critical stakeholders, which led to the seizure of Fifteen (15) consignments of Tramadol, Dried Shark Fins and Live Turtle with a DPV of N27, 758, 013, 993.47k (approximately N27.8billion).

The Area Controller informed : “Shark Fin and Live Turtle are classified under endangered species.

“In the spirit of inter-agency cooperation, the Command has handed over the packages of Tramadol to NDLEA.”

The CAC harps on continuous cooperation of all stakeholders and reiterates the Command’s promise to sustain and improve upon revenue generation in the second half of 2023.

More so, Compt Yusuf continues to build on the achievements of the previous year both in revenue generation and anti-smuggling activities.

Since his resumption, he has exhibited standard best practice, aiding trade facilitation and ease of doing business, which significantly increased revenue generation from January to June, 2023.
