The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), is poised for greater development under the current management, as the new Comptroller General, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has unveiled plans to relocate the Zonal office in Lagos to a more befitting ambience.
This laudable initiative is a renewed hope for the Service, as the latest innovation is coming 48 years after the Zonal office has been operating from a small location within Yaba axis in Lagos.
The CGC made this assertion on Tuesday, during a working visit to the Zonal headquarters in Lagos.
Speaking further, the CGC, who is working like a moving train, said the Zonal office requires a strategic operating ambience to carry out its administrative duties effectively.
According to him, relocating Customs Zone ‘A’ headquarters in Lagos to a befitting operating ambience becomes necessary, to strengthen the structure of the Zone to handle new responsibilities for greater efficiency.
He emphasized : “After staying in this location for about 48 years, it is time to relocate this structure to a more befitting environment and build a modern Zonal office for the Service in Lagos.
“Our desire is to bring back the power of the Zone. We need a Zonal office that is well-designed, located in a conducive environment and effective to handle new assignments”.
More so, the Customs Boss assured all stakeholders that relocating the Zonal headquarters will not affect service delivery in any way.”
In his remarks, the Zonal Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General, ACG Festus Okun, revealed that the Zone has generated N939billion revenue for the Federal Government, in first half of 2023 economic year,
He also said that in 2022, the Zone generated over N2. 1trillion revenue, which accounted for 80 percent of the total revenue of N2.6 trillion generated for that period.
