The Seme Border Command of
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has rewarded some Officers of the Command for remarkable performance and tenacity on the line of duty.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Seme Command, Compt Dera Nnadi mni, openly appreciated the gallant officers, who displayed doggedness in seizing $6 million fake currency notes, International Passports and donkey skin worth over N10 million in monetary value.

Speaking during routine parade at the Command, the CAC commended the officers for their hard work and resilience, which paved the way for the successes recorded by the Command within a short period.

Compt Nnadi, who expressed great pleasure on the performance of the Officers, described them as being tenacious and displaying the right decorum in carrying out their statutory functions.

He enthused :  “Let me commend all of you for your good conduct, especially in keeping the Command as epitome of good behaviour and selfless service to the Nigerian nation.

“Your tenacity at work has been helping the Command and we have made tremendous seizures, which have been globally acclaimed. I appreciate you for your dedication to the Service.

Speaking further, the CAC disclosed that the Command raked in a huge sum of N1.159billion (approximately N1.2billion) revenue for the Federal Government in 2023 half quarter.

His assertion :  “In terms of revenue collection, I congratulate you all. We have achieved so much in securing the border and also being able to raise revenue. At the moment, our revenue has risen to over N1.159billion.
This is tremendous feat, considering that the Command was given a target of N1.996 billion for the year. This shows that we have done far above half of our expected revenue target, when we are just starting the second half of the year. I am very proud of you. I appreciate your commitment and doggedness at all times.”

Going further, the Area Controller urged Officers to familiarise themselves with the new Customs Act 2023, as sensitisation for stakeholders starts soon.

He urged :  “All Officers must understand details of the new Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023. We have been used to Customs & Excise Management Act (CEMA). As such, transition to the new Act is going to be difficult, if you do not study it. This is because you can not intervene in any Customs process if you don’t know the law backing you and the entire procedure.”
