Defence Minister applauds NIMASA on maritime security, effective collaboration

..Says Jamoh has given Nigeria international recognition on piracy reduction

The Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, has applauded the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), on its outstanding achievements recorded in Maritime safety and security within the Gulf of Guinea.

He stated emphatically that the Director General of NIMASA, Dr Bashir Jamoh, has given Nigeria international recognition in maritime security, following his strategies in fighting piracy in Nigeria and within the region.

The Minister gave these commendations yesterday in Abuja, during the 24th edition of President Muhammadu Buhari Score card series, put together to showcase achievements of the President from 2015-2023.

The Defence Minister stressed that the giant strides recorded by NIMASA in maritime security are made possible through effective collaboration of the Agency with the Nigerian Military.

He explained that NIMASA DG has been working in close synergy with the Military in deployment of Deep Blue Assets for Anti-piracy operations in Nigeria and within the region.

His words :  “One of the major achievements of President Buhari’s Administration is maritime security, which is being carried out by NIMASA in collaboration with the Nigerian Military and other security agencies of government. This remarkable achievement has given our nation international recognition.

“For instance, “The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) in its half-year report of 2022 commended Nigeria’s effort in piracy reduction within the region.”

Speaking further, the Minister of Defence also said that Nigerian Armed Forces need adequate man-power to tackle security challenges in the country.

He mentioned that excessive demands are being made of the Military, as such, adequate man-power is paramount for effective performance.
