For generations to come, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command, Compt Hammi Swomen, will be remembered for his diligence, assiduousness, remarkable performance and selfless service to his father-land.

Today, being January 19, 2023, Compt Swomen made history as the first Area Controller to open a Staff Clinic at KLT Command.

The Clinic named after the Comptroller-General of Customs, is called Col, Hameed Ibrahim Ali Staff Clinic.

The Clinic was officially opened today morning, as the Customs Zonal Coordinator in charge of zone ‘A’, ACG Modupe Aremu commissioned the project in grand style.

Commissioning of the Clinic was a brief ceremony; but a special occasion witnessed by Customs Area Controller of TinCan Island Port Command, other Area Controllers, stakeholders, freight agents, sister security agencies and the media.

Speaking during the occasion, ACG Aremu expressed great pleasure about the project, describing Compt Swomen as one of the most outstanding officers.

Her words : “What Compt Swomen has done at this Command is indeed remarkable. He will always be remembered for good.

“In fact, Swomen is not just leaving behind a Staff Clinic at KLT,
he is also leaving this Command as ACG, because he has already been promoted as Acting ACG.

“I am calling on other Area Controllers to emulate his example. Any where you are posted to as a Controller, leave something good behind. So that you can be remembered for good in future.”

In his welcome address, Swomen said: “1 am deeply honoured to welcome the Zonal Coordinator, zone ‘A’ of Nigeria Customs Service, ACG A.M AREMU to the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command today January 19, 2023, to commission Col, Hameed Ibrahim Ali Staff Clinic.

“KLT is unique amongst maritime Commands in Lagos as the only off Dock Command. This implies
that the Command is dependent on its sister Commands, such as Apapa, TinCan Island Port (TCIP), Port and Terminal Multi-services Limited (PTML) for transfers of containers.

“May I use this opportunity to appreciate the Area Controllers of Apapa, TCIP, PTML and Western Marine Command.”

He pointed out :  “It is pertinent to note that this vision could not have been realised without the support and contributions of our critical
stakeholders. To all of you, I say a big thank you. I would like to appreciate the Traffic Manager, Nigerian Ports
Authority (NPA), our landlord and other Security Agencies for their cooperation and harmonious working relationship.

“I say a big thank you also to members of the Press for their support in publicising activities of the Command.”

He informed :  “The vision for setting up the Clinic is in line with the CGC’s innovative drive on assurance of Medical Welfare of Officers and Men of the Service. The Command observed the need for a clinic in this area to serve not only Officers and Men of the Command but also other stakeholders. The Clinic would also serve Medical Teams visiting
from Headquarters and the Zonal office.

“Our hope is that this Clinic should also boost the morale of Officers and Men to deliver on our mandates of Revenue Collection, Anti-smuggling and Trade Facilitation.

“It is our prayer that very soon, Medical Personnel would be
posted to effectively man the Clinic. In the interim, we would crave the kind indulgence of the Zonal Coordinator to have Medical Personnel visit regularly from the Zonal Headquarters to assist the Command”.
