Customs in Kaduna records N690.8million seizures

* Hands over 70 parcels of cannabis sativa to NDLEA

Only two months after showcasing seizures worth millions of Naira,
the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘B’ of Nigeria Customs Service, Kaduna is in the news again for remarkable performance in anti-smuggling operations.

Information obtained by our news platform revealed that the Unit made seizures worth over N690.8million in Duty Paid Value (DPV), in the last two months, precisely from 25 August 2022 to 27 October 2022.

Also, the officers of the Unit through hard work and resilience seized 70 parcels of cannabis sativa, which were handed over to representative of the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kaduna, Assistant Commander of Narcotics (ACN), Ado Ali Kubau, in the spirit of inter-agency collaboration.

That was not all. The Unit also intercepted 749 bags of foreign rice; 758 bales/sacks of secondhand clothes; 533 cartons of foreign spaghetti/ Macaroni; 473 Cartons of foreign Pharmaceuticals; 245 used tyres; 221jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and 116 cartons of female Shoes.

Others include 20 units of imported vehicles, four means of conveyance, 65 bags of foreign Rice (25kg each), 14 Cartons of foreign body cream, eight sacks of used shoes; nine bales of foreign bags, 12 cartons of
foreign cigarettes/Tobacco snuff; vegetable oil, among other prohibited items.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Unit, Compt. Albashir Hamisu psc(+), handed over the seized Cannabis sativa to NDLEA, during a press conference in the Zone.

He informed :  “In a renewed effort against smuggling activities by FOU Zone ‘B’ Kaduna, the Unit recorded 132 seizures at various locations within its area of responsibility.

Speaking further, Compt. Hamisu attributed the feats by the Unit to sharing of intelligence with sister agencies and effective performance management.

He enjoined the citizens to volunteer information to stem the menace of smuggling in Nigeria.

Also, the CAC commended the media for disseminating information on efforts by the Service in increasing the tempo of anti-smuggling drive to curtail influx of banned items into the economic environment.

While taking over the seized Cannabis sativa, the representative of NDLEA commended the Unit for its zeal and commitment, despite the technicalities and complexity of seizing such hard drugs.
