Customs at PTML hits N117.6bn revenue collection

* As Compt Okun achieves remarkable increase of over N13bn

The Nigeria Customs Service, Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command has collected a whopping sum of N117,568,218,513.00 (approximately N117.6 billion) revenue for the Federal Government, in the first half of 2022 fiscal year.

Most remarkably, the Command recorded 12.3 percent increase in revenue, which is over N13billion when compared to N104.5 billion realised the same period in 2021.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of PTML Command, SC Yakubu Muhammed, revealed the revenue figures in a press statement signed by the Command.

He attributed the feat recorded by PTML Command to the management skills and ingenuity brought to bear by Compt Festus Okun, the
Customs Area Controller (CAC).

The PRO pointed out :
“Increase in revenue collection is due to combined results in volume of trade through the port trade facilitation strategies and prevention of revenue leakages emplaced by Compt Okun.”

His explanation :
“Comparatively, the Command recorded increase in monthly revenue collections for 2022 greater than 2021, except in the month of April 2022, when we collected N16,357,509,497 that was eight percent lower than N17,938,794,417 billion”.

More so, the PRO gave the Command revenue generation statistics on monthly basis as follows :
“The cumulative revenue collection in January, February March, April, May and June 2022 reflects increase of 3 percent to 28 percent.”

“For instance, in January this year, the Command raked in N15,713,776,798 billion, which is 3.3 percent higher than N15,205,823,545 billion collected in January 2021. In the month of February 2022, N14,075,386,963 billion was collected in 2022; while N11,706,947,150 billion was realised in February 2021, showing an increase of 20 percent on what the Command generated the previous year.”

He went on :
“Also, in March 2022, the Command collected N21,840,828,908 billion, which shows 9.5 percent increase when compared to N19,937,869,175 billion collected in March 2021”.

In the same vein, in May 2022, the Command made tremendous increase in revenue collection with a huge sum of N22,550,759,092 billion paid into the federationaccount.
The amount generated in May 2022 was 28 percent higher than N17,606,073,741 billion collected the same month in 2021.

In June 2022, N27,029,957,255 billion was collected, with 21.5 percent increase compared to N22,253,694,223 billion generated in June 2021.

Thus, Compt. Okun urges importers and port users operating in PTML to take advantage of trade facilitation tools in the Command, such as ICT platform, as well as other platforms to enhance seamless cargo clearance.

The CAC advised freight forwarders to utilise ICT innovations designed to simplify Customs operations, especially Non- Intrusive Inspection (NII), aims at ensuring speedy cargo clearance without human interface in the system.

The CAC urged officers and men of PTML Command to remain hard working and resilient in carrying out their statutory functions in tandem with the vision of top Customs management.
