Massive seizures by Customs Strike Force in photo news
*As DC Sani Yusuf intercepts donkey skin, tramadol, Cannabis Sativa worth over N6.6bn
Few days ago, the office of Customs Strike Force Team ‘A’, Lagos, was the beehive of activities, as the Coordinator of the team, DC Muhammad Sani Yusuf, unveiled seized prohibited items worth over N6.6 billion in Duty Paid Value (DPV).
That same day, the entire premises of Customs Strike Force appeared like a big manufacturing firm with different products. While some items were displayed in the open, others were loaded in containers, as well as long trucks.
Seized items seen by our correspondent during the press conference that day included 1,030 slabs of donkey skin; 387kg of cannabis sativa; 285 bales of used clothes; 4000 bags of foreign rice (an equivalent of 7 truck loads); 1,613 cartons of Codeine cough syrup (100mI per bottle) and 132 cartons of 200mg Sildenafil Citrate.
Others were 40 cartons of Tramadol; five cartons of Chilly Cutter; 1,080 pairs of female shoes; 110 cartons of ladies bags; 115 cartons of ladies gel among other items; worth more than
N6,644,472,520 billion.
DC Yusuf, while addressing Journalists revealed that the mind boggling seizures were made within just eight weeks.
He lamented that the activities of some unpatriotic Nigerians in importing prohibited items into the country illegally constitute a big drain on the foreign exchange that would have been utilised in productive commercial activities for the nation’s economy.
Though the press briefing organised by Customs Strike Force Team ‘A’, Lagos, had come and gone, the ingenuity, resilience and doggedness displayed by DC Yusuf and his team in tackling economic saboteurs in their area of responsibility will linger for long on the minds of observers and stakeholders in the maritime industry.
