Nigerian workers must earn good salaries – Says Lagos NUJ Chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lagos State chapter, Mr Adeleye Ajayi has said that Nigerian workers deserve good salaries and wages, in order to live reasonably well.

Mr Ajayi emphasised the urgent need for Nigerian workers to earn good wages, to improve their standards of living.

He pointed out :
“Inflation is rising everyday, therefore, there is need for government to increase workers’ salaries to meet with the present economic realities in the country”.

According to him :  “The last time Federal Government proposed minimum wage was many years ago. I think it is time for upward review of the minimum wage.”

Speaking further,  the Lagos NUJ Chairman stressed that
workers need to be comfortable.  This, he said would enhance their productivity in different departments of government parastatals they find themselves in”.

Also, Ajayi called on government appointees at the helm of affairs to ensure prudence in managing the nation’s resources and look for ways to create jobs for the youths

His assertions:
“Government should find a way of creating more jobs and opportunities for the youths because an idle hand is the devil’s workshop.

“I think employers in private and public sectors should make their employees happy by providing a conducive environment for them to work.

“The ultimate goal of being a member of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) is to ensure that the government knows the plight of workers, so that they can ameliorate their sufferings”.
