For generations to come, the history of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) will be incomplete without mentioning ACG Bashir Abubakar, an outstanding officer of the Service popularly known as Mr Integrity

A Customs officer, who made the Service and entire Nigerian nation proud with  display of the highest level of integrity in public office.

The officer, who rejected a whopping sum of over N150million bribe to clear about 40 containers of Tramadol at Apapa port, when he was the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Apapa Command. ACG Abubakar placed the laws of conscience and integrity above self enrichment and financiall gratification. He denied himself an opportunity to acquire quick wealth just to save the nation from deadly consequences of dangerous drugs.

Our Correspondent went memory lane to recall the enormous contributions of this amiable officer to Nigeria Customs Service.

ACG Abubakar, a thorough professional and one of the finest officers of the Service. Selflessness, hard work, sincerity and steadfastness were his watch words while in office.

His remarkable display of honesty earned him the prestigious award of Integrity bestowed on him by President Muhammadu Buhari.
at the Presidential Villa. It was indeed a great honour and the first of such prestigious Award given to a serving Customs officer in Nigeria.

That was not all.
Shipping World equally  honoured him with another Award of Integrity. ACG Abubakar also received WCO Award of Excellence when he was CAC of Apapa Command.

ACG Abubakar, a disciplinarian, a man of honour and administrator with a pedigree of intellectualism. He is Knowledgeable and highly skilled in Customs operations. He has served Customs in various capacities before his retirement.

He served as the Controller, Post Clearance Audit.  He served as Customs Area Controller (CAC) Onne Command and CAC Apapa Area Command before his promotion to the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) of Customs.

Though, ACG Abubakar has retired from active service, his achievements and service to the Nigerian nation are all in the records. It is to his credit that Onne Command wears a new and befitting look today. With the approval of CGC Hameed Ali, ACG Abubakar in collaboration with stakeholders built a world class office apartment for Onne Command, the centre of Oil and Gas operations in the country.
