ANLCA condemns attack, killing of Customs officer

* Says culprits must face prosecution

The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Enugu State Chapter has condemned in strong terms the attack on Customs operatives in Enugu, which led to the death of one officer, even as others were injured.

The Chairman of ANLCA, Enugu Chapter, Prince Alex Nwokeabia, made this statement sequel to the deadly attack on Customs officers while on official duty.

Speaking further, Nwokeabia called for thorough investigation and prosecution of those found culpable of this callous act

ANLCA Chairman, who frowned at the unfortunate incident, warned against violent attack on officers carrying out their statutory functions.

Prince Nwokeabia sympathised with the family of the victim, Mr Suleiman and the entire Service for the ugly incident.

The Customs report sighted by our Correspondent revealed that the
incident occurred on Thursday, February 10, 2022 within Ozalla Community at Four Corners junction along Enugu/ Port Harcourt Expressway.

The report reads :
“The Service received the sad news of an incident that occurred on Thursday February 10, 2022 at Ozalla community by four corners junction along Enugu/Port Harcourt expressway. At about 1:30pm our officers on routine patrol were attacked by hoodlums, who opened fire on them without provocation.

“One of our officers lost his life while others sustained injuries.. Members of the public will recall that a similar fate befell our officers on April 25 2021, along Port Harcourt/Owerri Road axis. An incident, which claimed the lives of three officers.

“These unprovoked attacks by faceless cowards whose intention is to instill fear in the minds of law enforcement operatives shall not go unpunished. Neither will it dampen the resolve of officers and men from carrying out their statutory responsibilities.

“We pray for the family of the deceased officer whose sacrifice is deeply appreciated and held in high esteem. To the officers wounded, the Service promises to stand by them on their journey to recovery and full restoration of health.

“We implore all well-meaning Nigerians to support the efforts of Customs, as we strive towards contributing our quota in building a robust economy sustained by fair trade under enabling laws.”
