ANLCA talks tough, jettisons conditions for reconciliation

* Says only NEC can decide fate of expelled members

* Our tenure ends in April 2023 – Declares Hon Tony Nwabunike

Indications emerged that defaulting members expelled from Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) for anti-association activities cannot reunite with the group on a silver platter.

The fact remains that expelled members willing to retrace their steps must go through certain processes, even as their fate can only be decided by National Executive Council (NEC) of the Association after due process.

These were some of the issues highlighted during the just concluded NEC meeting held over the weekend in Lagos.

During exhaustive deliberations at the NEC meeting, the National Secretary of ANLCA, Alhaji Babatunde Mukaila presented the conditions given by aggrieved members for reconciliation.
But their demands met a brick-wall, as members of ANLCA instantly jettisoned their demands, insisting that the Association cannot discuss with expelled individuals.

More so, speaking with Journalists on his capacity as the National President of ANLCA, Hon. Prince Tony Iju Nwabunike said emphatically that NEC is the highest decision making body of ANLCA. In that capacity, only NEC has the constitutional powers to recall erring members.

He pointed out :
“Tony Iju Nwabunike is not the one who expelled them, it was the decision of NEC. Therefore, if they want to return, they must go through NEC of
the Association.

” NEC will review their case and act accordingly.  We have just one year to round off our tenure in office and we can’t stay beyond one year.

Recall that the NEC of ANLCA in 2021 expelled erring members, which include the managing director of Multimodal Logistics limited, Mr. Abdulmaza Joe-Sanni; managing director of Green Star Nigeria limited, Mr. Temitope Akindele; managing director of MarkMary Nigeria limited, Prince Taiye Oyeniyi; managing director of Nestilo Global Services, Ernest Elochukwu; managing director of Salem International Nigeria limited, John Oforbike; the managing director of Bayle limited, Alhaji Bayo Oyekangun, as well as the managing director of Pyramid Nigeria limited, Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha.

In the same vein, Hon Nwabunike expressed satisfaction on the performance by the Board of Trustees (BoT), especially its tremendous support for the successful conduct of Murtala Mohammed Airport Chapter election, which was a huge success, as the winners were sworn into office immediately.

His assertions :
” I have to specially thank the BoT members for their efforts, commitment, hard work and resilience, without which, the election would not have been possible.  I’m also thanking the new
ASECO under the watch of Comrade Aloy Anokwuru for a job well done !. They conducted a credible, fair and peaceful election.”

Responding to the issue of tenure elongation, Hon. Nwabunike declared authoritatively that the administration of the current Executives under his leadership will end precisely in April 2023.

He stressed that false alarm on tenure elongation is coming from the camp of expelled members, whose antics in trying to derail the leadership of ANLCA for selfish gains has been unsuccessful over the years.

He expressed his determination and the tenacity to move ANLCA to greater heights.
