Port Manager lauds Apapa Customs on N245 billion exports

The Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex, Mrs Olufunmilayo Olotu has commended
the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Apapa Command, Compt Yusuf Malanta Ibrahim for his remarkable performance in facilitating export trade at the premier port in 2021.
Mrs Olotu gave the commendation during the press conference organised by Apapa Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), to assess its performance in 2021 and to chart the way forward for 2022.
She stressed that over N245 billion export trade supervised by Compt Malanta in 2021 fiscal year is a laudable achievement for Nigeria’s economy, especially at a time government needs more foreign exchange earnings for the country.
She said that being an import dependent country is not helping the nation’s economy in terms of productivity.
According to her, Nigeria needs more export activities to boost its forex inflow like what obtains in advanced countries. This, she said becomes imperative to enhance economic growth and development.
Speaking further, she informed that Lilypond terminal has been identified as the final zone for export processing, such that items processed and concluded at Lilypond can go into the vessels at the port corridor for immediate exportation.
She emphasised :
“We need more exports to build our economy. At this point, we need the support of all stakeholders in the maritime industry to increase our export capacity.”
Going further,
the Port Manager also commended Compt Malanta on inter-agency collaboration, which, she said yielded tremendous successes in 2021 economic year .
Her words :
“Collaboration at the port corridor with other government agencies is our key focus. Activities within the premier port were quite successful last year due to inter-agency synergy, which Apapa Customs supported strongly.”
