Seme Customs seizes N1.4bn hard drugs concealed In diapers
In a bid to stem the tide in illegal importation of hard drugs,, the Seme Border Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has seized 1X20ft container loaded with tramadol capsules but concealed with 200 packages of adult diapers
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Command,, DSC Hussaini Abdullahi disclosed these details to reporters.
He revealed that the hard drugs laden in container with registration number MRKU 9090415 worth over N1.4 billion in Duty Paid Value (DPV).
Giving more information on behalf of the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Compt Bello Jibo, he explained that the container on transit to Nigeria.was handed over to Seme Command on 15 November 2021 by Authorities from Republic of Benin.
He added that the container has been under the custody of the Command since then, as no agent or importer comes for the clearance of the deadly cargo.
He pointed out :
“On December 20, 2O21 Nigeria Customs Service invited other Security Agencies and Stakeholders to witness examination of the said Container. Upon examination, the items discovered were 200 packages of Adult Diapers, 100 cartons of Gabadol 120mg (suspected to be tramadol) and equivalent to 360kg. The diapers were smartly arranged at the front of the container while the drugs were at the back”.
Also, Compt Jibo directed that samples by given to NAFDAC for laboratory analysis, even as he said a thorough investigation must be carried out to track the syndicate behind importation of the hard drugs.
Going further, the CAC warned economic saboteurs against illicit trade, stressing that Seme Command under his watch will not hesitate to bring perpetrators of unlawful activities to book.
