Yuletide, Seme Customs steps up patrol surveillance at border

* Intercepts 22,500 litres of Petrol from Creeks at Badagry

As the Yuletide season is at hand, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of Seme Border Command, Comptroller Bello Jibo and his operatives are already stepping up patrol surveillance at Seme axis, the border between Nigeria and neighbouring African countries to protect the nation’s economy from influx of offensive items through the border.

ComptJibo and his men are also combing the creeks within the border communities to thwart nefarious activities of petrol smugglers operating within the creeks.

Their efforts have yielded tremendous results, as the Command just intercepted 750 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol from Oloko Creeks in Badagry.

This is happening just two weeks after the same Command seized 31,500 litres of smuggled Petrol worth N5,393,902.00million (approximate N5.4million), in Duty Paid Value (DPV) from the waterways along Badagry axis.

The CAC, who spoke through the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Hussain Abdullahi
disclosed that the 750 jerrycans of fuel equivalent to 22,500 litres worth N3,318,450 in monetary value.

He commended the officers for their tenacity and doggedness in stepping up patrol surveillance at their area of responspecially during this ember month.

His assertion:
“After evacuating the product successfully.
The seized jerrycans loaded with petrol were taken to the Command premises. Upon examination, 750 jerrycans of petrol equivalent to 22,500 litres were discovered. The DPV is N3,318, 450.00 only.
We commend the uncompromising attitude of our officers in carrying out their statutory duties.
We will continue to increase the tempo of anti-smuggling operations at Seme Area Command”.

Apparently, with this level of anti-smuggling onslaught, economic saboteurs siphoning petroleum products through Seme axis, the border between Nigeria and neighbouring African countries are facing a hard time.
