The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), CGC Hameed Ali has disclosed that arrangements are on top gear to Launch the much-talked about e-Customs platform in the first quarter of 2022.

The CGC revealed this during the graduation ceremony organised for Customs Senior course 5 and Junior course 11, which took place at Customs Staff College, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

He assured that the e-Customs system will reduce human inter-face in Customs operations, in order to ensure seamless cargo clearance and increase in revenue collection for the Federal Government.

He added: “The reality is that, we are almost signing the e-Customs concession agreement. So, once we get it signed, the next step will be the implementation.

“The consortium is ready and has made contacts for supplies and its suppliers are ready, so are people who are keying into it.

“At present, we are waiting to get the vetted copy of the agreement from the Ministry of Justice. The moment this is signed, we will launch the e-Customs process. This should take place by first quarter of 2022.”

According to the CGC,  e-Customs will boost revenue collection and ease of doing business, while taking national security into consideration.

On reveue collection, the CGC said Customs is targeting between N2.2trillion and N2.3trillion by the end of this 2021 economiic year.

Also speaking, Commandant of the College, ACG Adewale Adeniyi said that 78 participants, comprising of 38 senior staff and 40 from the junior cadre, displayed high level of professionalism in the training, which started in June 2021.

He applauded the CGC and the management team for approval in acquisition of two power generating sets, in addition to solar energy arrangements as strategic ways of tackling epileptic power supply in the college.

According to him, the College is working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure security within Gwagwalada area.
