Customs at Oyo/Osun Command rakes in N50.9bn

* Gets 10 new patrol vehicles

The Oyo/Osun Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has generated a whopping sum of N50.9 billion into the federation account.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, Comptroller A. R . ABDULKADIR, disclosed this during press conference in Oyo State.

He informed that the huge amount was realised from January to October 2021.The CAC also showed Journalists 10 new operational vehicles given to his Command by the top Customs Management, to enhance efficiency in their operations.

Comptroller ABDULKADIR said :
“The Command is an enforcement/excise area, as such has recorded successes on both levels of operations. To enhance our operations, the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Hameed Ali, has been magnanimous enough to provide the Command with 10 new fully kitted Toyota Hilux Vehicles.

“The Comptroller General has also boosted the morale of officers with the provision of other necessary facilities that can aid our performance.

” All these have further re-awakened the vigour and strategies in our anti-smuggling drive as exemplified in the seizure of 500 bags of rice in a residential building in Osun State, by my gallant officers in the early hours of this morning.”

He went on :
“To this effort, we owe him, his erudite Management Team and the Nation at large our commitment and focus in fighting the menace of smuggling that has bedevilled our Country, as this would have a relieving effect on the economy and by extension, the livelihood of the populace”.

“Oyo/Osun Area Command under my distinguished leadership for the period covering January – October 2021, generated N50.9billion, which signifies 14.4% increase when compared to the same period in year 2020, which recorded N43.6 billion”.

According to him :
“The seizures made during the same period have a cumulative Duty Paid Value of N617million.

“As part of the aforementioned, displayed before you are the array of seizures:; 5046 X 50kg bags of foreign parboiled rice; 22 bales of Second Hand Clothings; one Unit of 2017 Honda Accord, a unit of 2020 Toyota Prado Jeep 500 X 25L kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which shall be auctioned due to its inflammable nature and proceeds remitted accordingly.

“The Officers of Oyo/Osun Command shall not relent on their effort to combat the menace of smuggling, rather, we shall further sharpen our intelligence and widen our dragnet to ensure that all nooks and crannies of Oyo and Osun States are well covered.

“May I through this medium reiterate that the good people of Oyo and Osun States should stay away from engaging in mob attack on officers performing their lawful duties, as there are sanctions prescribed against such offender under Sections 11 and 165 of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA), Cap C45 LFN 2004.

” For those of you who block the roads and other access points, thereby preventing our officers from accessing smuggling areas, all in the name of vigilante, kindly refrain from such act, as you can also be punished under Section 11 of the CEMA Cap C45 LFN 2004. Be informed that Section 158 of the CEMA, gives Customs officers the power to patrol freely across the Nation. I would like to appreciate the patriotic Citizens who have contributed to ensuring that we achieve the successes that we have recorded so far.”
