* Urges Police boss to make public panel report
As controversy continues to trail the recent invasion of the residence of Supreme Court Justice, Mary Odili in Abuja, the Senate has condemned the raid in strong terms.
This formed part of the recommendations made by the Lawmakers, after exhaustive deliberation on the Point of Order, raised by Betty Apiafi –
PDP, Rivers West-Â during plenary.
The Upper Chamber commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali for constituting a panel to investigate the raid.
Going further, the Senate urged the Police boss to make public all findings from the panel set up to investigate the invasion.
Apiafi, coming under Order 42 and 52 of the Senate Standing Rules, moved a motion on the Urgent Need to thoroughly Investigate the raid on the home of her Lordship.
The Lawmaker in her motion stated that on October 29, 2021, security operatives raided the residence of the Supreme Court Judge, noting that Justice Mary Odili is the second most senior Judicial officer in the country.
She stressed that the Senate is worried, as the latest incident brings to mind similar raid on homes of some senior Judicial Officers like Chief Judges of the Supreme Court, as well as Judges of the Federal High Court in Abuja and other parts of the country in October 2016.
