Following activities of some petrol stations in the country hoarding Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol and creating artificial scarcity in the system, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has set up a Taskforce to monitor fuel outlets.

The Chairman of IPMAN, Kano Zone, Bashir Dan -Mallam, Kano informed that the Taskforce will work in partnership with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in carrying out its assignment.

The Chairman of IPMAN, explained that the Taskforce team has been given a mandate to monitor and ensure that filling stations sell petrol at the correct price without hoarding the product.

According to him, the Taskforce must do a thorough job, as erring marketers found hoarding petrol when the product is available in the country will be sanctioned accordingly.

He revealed that about 210 petroleum tankers were loaded with products for distribution across the country, as such, there is no need for panic buying.

He pointed out :
“There is sufficient product in the country. No need for Nigerians to panic. The fuel being supplied will be enough for consumption.

“I am urging Nigerians not to panic. Panic is what causes long queues at the petrol stations. Panic gives people a wrong signal that the product is scared even when we have enough.
That is the reason you see someone coming with five cars and jerrycans to buy fuel at the filling station.

“Nigerians should be rest assured that NNPC, IPMAN and other stakeholders are on top of the situation.
IPMAN will not allow some unscrupulous elements to inflict hardship on the citizens by hoarding fuel”.
