Impressive Record : KLT Customs gets 21 promoted officers, 5 on senior ranks

• Promoted officers applaud Compt Swomen on exemplary leadership style

It was an impressive record yesterday, at Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Customs Command, (KLT), as the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Compt H. J. Swomen, decorated promoted officers from his Command.

Most remarkably is the fact that five out of these promoted officers are on the senior ranks.
The officers are ;
M. N. Makinta promoted to Comptroller of Customs; H. A. Accama promoted to Deputy Comptroller; A. K. Edun promoted to Deputy Comptroller; O. J. Arokoyu promoted to Deputy Comptroller; and B. E. Onokpasa elevated to Assistant Comptroller.

Others include F. C. Njepuome elevated to Chief Superintendent of Customs; D.O. Fadonugbo promoted to Superintendent of Customs; R. A. Kassim elevated to Superintendent of Customs; E. R. Okonkwo moved to Superintendent of Customs; P. P. GOAR now Superintendent of Customs.

Those promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Customs (DSC) include
M. C. Okoronkwo, M. I. Emodi; S. M. Sani; N. M. Ngene; A. U. Salihu; and T. M. Farinre-Folorunsho.

Also, officers moved to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Customs 1 (ASC 1) are G. N. Akanno; A. N. Ndamadu; A. Abdulkareem; C. O. Odeh and PC Maxwell, making a total of 21 promoted officers from KLT Command.

Addressing officers during their decoration, Compt Swomen advised them to display integrity, hard work and resilience in all aspects of their statutory duties.

Compt Swomen, applauded the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Hameed Ali and his management team for the promotion, which he said will spur officers to remain focused and steadfast in serving the nation.

The CAC also urged the officers to be vigilant and ensure timely use of intelligence in carrying out their core functions, especially in protecting the nation’s economy from influx of offensive items this period of ember months.

also, some of the promoted officers, who spoke on the sidelines of the exercise applauded Compt Swomen for his exemplary leadership style, which they said paved the way for greater productivity among officers and men of KLT Command. While some officers described Compt Swomen as being highly strategic in running the Command, others called him exemplary team leader.

Recall that just few days ago, the Zonal Coordinator of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), in charge of Zone ‘A’, ACG Modupe Aremu (Mrs), during her tour of Commands in the Zone, commended Compt Swomen for remarkable performance in revenue collection for the Federal Government.

ACG Aremu was particularly impressed by the fact that KLT as an Off- Dock maritime Command in Lagos improved on its revenue collection from N1.8billion in 2020, to N4.3billion in July 2021.

Her expression :
“I am highly impressed by the remarkable performance of Compt Swomen and his team.
Looking at the records here, the Command has done very well in revenue generation, moving from average monthly collection of N1.8billion in 2020, to N4.3billion in July 2021. This is highly commendable because it requires a lot of work and discipline to achieve this.

” Compt Swomen, you have done very well, but you can do more. I’m really pleased with your records. So, by December this year, we are expecting N5 billion and above. Always ensure working collaboration and timely use of intelligence with other security agencies”.

Our news inquest revealed that KLT is the only Off- Dock Command in Lagos. As such, the Command depends on stemming and transfers of cargo from Apapa and TinCan Island Ports.
But despite the difficulties involved in transferring consignments on transire, payment of terminal charges in the mother ports and at the destination terminals, challenges of barging, the officers are working hard to secure the cargo volume that translates to revenue for government.
