  • Intercepts live ammunition concealed in Cassava flour

The Special Assignment Team of Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’, of Nigeria Customs Service, has
intercepted three vehicles loaded with live cartridges concealed in sacks of cassava flour.

The operatives of the Unit uncovered the
live ammunition while on information patrol along Igbora axis of Oyo State.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the Unit, Theophilus Duniya,
“The drivers abandoned their vehicles on sighting the official vehicle of the Customs offiicers on patrol.”

He disclosed; “Items discovered during physical examination in the office included 751 pieces of AAA, 70mm live Lion Cartridges, sacks of cassava flour and sacks of foreign parboiled rice.”

More so, the vehicles including the contents have been deposited at the Unit Headquarters for further investigation, even as the Unit is currently on red alert to unravel the syndicate behind the crime.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), in Charge of the Unit, DC Hussein Ejibunu, has called on all patriotic citizens to provide useful and timely information that will help in curbing smuggling.

His displeasure : “Smuggling is the mother of all crimes, hence the need to team up and fight it to the barest minimum.

“It is an act of sabotage that must not be allowed to fester for a long time, most especially with the security challenges in the country. Information is key and germane towards the fight against this cankerworm called smuggling”.

The CAC stressed that credible information sharing is vital, in order to protect the economic environment from influx of offensive items.
