Expect 70 scanners with e-Customs – ACG Modupe Aremu

• Says Customs at Apapa, TinCan, Onne Commands to get scanners soon

The Zonal Coordinator, in charge of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Zone ‘A’, ACG Modupe Aremu (Mrs), has disclosed that Customs at Apapa, TinCan Island and Onne Commands will soon get scanners, to fast track examination of containers and enhance seamless cargo clearance from the seaports.

This, she said is in line with the fiscal policy of the Federal Government, on ease of doing business; also in tandem with the vision of top Customs management on trade facilitation like what obtains in the global trend.

ACG Aremu, made these details known during her working tour of various Commands under her watch in Zone ‘A’.

Mrs Aremu stressed that the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Hameed Ali, is working tirelessly to ensure that the scanners are deployed to the three Commands mentioned above within the shortest possible time.

Speaking further, the Zonal Coordinator, informed that with the modernisation of Customs procedures, known as e-Customs, which will kick-off in the nearest future, the Service will get up to 70 scanners for its operations.

According to her, the scanning devices will be mounted on various ports and other operational locations to ensure speedy cargo examination at all times.

Her assertions :
“I can assure you that the CGC is working very hard to ensure that the scanners are deployed to these three Commands soon. And with e-Customs, which is going to be end-to-end automatic all through, we are expecting nothing less than 70 scanners for Commands at seaports, as well as Airports”.

She went on: “To whom much is given, much is expected. I am urging you all to continue giving your best to the Service.
The CGC is also very passionate about welfare of officers. At present, he is looking for a suitable place to build 50 – beds hospital for officers. This is in addition to contracts awarded for construction of 132 blocks of flats, barracks and marine base for officers.

Responding to question on a reward system for officers with outstanding performance, She said, ‘Of course, there is. The CGC is always giving commendation letters to officers, who are exceptional in carrying out their statutory duties. Aside from letters of commendation, some are promoted a step ahead to motivate them.”

More so, our Correspendent observed that during the tour, Area Controllers of Commands visited showered encomiums on CGC Hameed Ali, on his choice of ACG Aremu as the Zonal Coordinator for zone ‘A’.
At Apapa Command, the Area Controller, Compt Yusuf Malanta described Mrs Aremu as experienced officer, who served Customs at various capacities and rose through the ranks to her current position. Compt Abdullahi Musa of TinCan Island Port Command, who was very enthusiastic in receiving the Zonal Coordinator, described her as a seasoned administrator and great professional who believes in hard work and discipline.
Compt Musa presented a beautiful picture frame to ACG Aremu, to honour her for the visit.

At PTML Command, it was the same display of honour. Compt Okun said the visit of ACG Aremu to PTML was like coming to a familiar terrain. He described the ACG as a dedicated officer of the Service.
