Applauds CGC Ali on Customs reforms

*ACG Aremu is one of the finest Customs officers – Says Zonal PRO, Nwala

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has produced many intelligent officers, ACG Modupe Aremu (Mrs), the current Coordinator of Customs in Zone ‘A’ is one of them.

ACG Aremu, who is highly experienced in Customs operations, has served Customs in various capacities before being posted to Lagos, as the Zonal Coordinator, with the responsibility of supervising activities of various Commands within the Zone.

ACG Aremu, took over the mantle of leadership in Zone ‘A’ precisely in July 2021, from ACG Kaycee Ekekezie, another intelligent Customs officer, known for hard work and diligence.

As a skilled officer, ACG Aremu is already embarking on working tour of Commands within her area of coverage.
Her first point of call was Customs Training College at Ikeja, Lagos, where she inspected construction projects of new buildings for officers, the food canteen and medical centre well equipped with facilities, as well as a standard theatre.

The Commandant of Training College, Compt Sarkin-Kebbi, expressed optimism that ACG Aremu, has what it takes to coordinate activities
of Customs in Zone ‘A’ effectively.

In her remarks, Mrs Aremu commended CGC Hameed Ali on Customs reforms, which she said brought about discipline and greater productivity by the Service.

She stressed; “Discipline is very important in everything we do. No body can succeed in making positive impacts in the society without discipline. So, we must show discipline, integrity, punctuality and proper dressing at all times.

“After going through this Training College over 30 years ago, I’m happy to be in this same College today, being my first point of call for this tour. The CGC recognises the importance of capacity building for officers and is doing a lot in terms of equipment, training and provision of decent accommodation, as well as general welfare to ensure that officers are well motivated. The CGC is passionate about officers welfare and is doing a lot in this aspect.”

The Zonal Public Relations Officer (PRO), N. Nwala, who announced the arrival of ACG Aremu at the Training College,, described her as one of the finest Customs officers in the current management team under the watch of CGC Ali.
The Zonal PRO also extolled the good qualities, expertise and ingenuity of ACG Aremu in Customs operations, saying that her tour will bring about positive changes at the end of the exercise.

The next point of call was the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’, Ikeja, where ACG Aremu commended officers for their hard work and resilience despite incessant attacks by smugglers.
She urged the officers to ensure proper use of fire arms to defend themselves, especially when under violent attacks by economic saboteurs.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), DC Yahaya, took the ACG and her entourage round the Unit to see massive seizures made within a short period.
DC Yahaya in his brief speech during the visit disclosed that the Unit realised over N3.5 billion revenue from underpayment and other trade infractions.

The tour was a thorough exercise, as the Zonal Coordinator and her team moved from FOU to International Airport Command, where the Area Controller, Compt A. B. Abdullahi, took the team round the Free Tree Zone, up to where ExecuJet Aviation Nigeria operates.
In giving information on activities of the Command, Compt Abdullahi, revealed that he has improved on revenue collection to a huge sum of N1.7billion.

The tour continued, as ACG Aremu, moved from International Airport to Murtala Muhammed Area Command (MMAC), where the Customs boss, Compt S. K. Dangaladima, disclosed a revenue collection of N4.3 billion in the month of August 2021. Compt Dangaladima, took the AGC round the Command, up to where DHL operates.

Speaking on the significance of the tour, ACG Aremu, who still appeared very energetic and articulate after the exhaustive exercise, which took a whole day, thanked the officers for their selflessness.

Her assertions:
“I’m highly impressed by the commitments of officers in carrying out their statutory duties, especially in revenue collection for the Federal Government. I believe we can still do better.

“I have taken note of their challenges and will present them to the management accordingly.
On the issue of scanners, we are expecting some scanners soon. And with e-Customs, which is going to be end-to-end automation, we are going to have many scanners to fast track our operations.”
