Apparently, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), of Katsina State Command, of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), DC Dalha Wada Chedi,
and his gallant officers are giving smugglers a tough time. This is evidence in the large quantities of seizures recorded in just few weeks of anti-smuggling operations, from July 8, 2021, to August 3, 2021.
Addressing reporters during a press conference in Katsina State, Chedi Wada, disclosed that the Command made a total of over N60,175, 783.00- (approximately N60.2million), seizures.
Giving a break down of the seizures, he said. “The items intercepted during the period under review include Lexus Saloon car worth N3.6million in Duty Paid Value (DPV): Toyota Corolla with DPV of N7million; Mercedes Benz worth N1,890,000.00 – (approximately N1.9million); Peugeot-Bus worth N1,485,000.00 (approximately N1.5million); another Peugeot -Bus worth N1,687,500.00 (approximately N1.7million); Ford Van with DPV of N2million; Peugeot-Bus Iveco valued at N2,160,000.00 (approximately N2.2million); DAF truck tipper worth N8.1million; Toyota RAV-4 valued at N4,399,750.00 (approximately N4.4million; Toyota Highlander Jeep worth N7,159,584.00 – (approximately N7.2million); among other cars, with total DPV of over N42.1million.
“Other seized items included foreign rice worth N7.6million; four motorcycles worth 240,000.00;
21 bags of foreign fertilizer (50kg each) worth N154,350.00; 50 bags of animal feeds worth N262,500.00;
26 bags of maize (50kg each), with DPV of N715,000.00;
10 bags of Soya beans worth N315,000.00;
178 cartons of foreign spaghetti with DPV of N961,200.00;
14 kegs of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) – commonly known as Petrol worth N61,600.00; 227 Jerrycans of vegetable oil worth N5.5million; and 42 bags of nuts (Dabina), worth N2.3million, making a total of over N18million.
Speaking further, the CAC explained that his Command is using superior Intelligence to defeat illicit traders in Katsina State.
Wada, described the dare-devil smugglers as economic saboteurs, whose nefarious activities must be curtailed, in order to promote growth of local industries across the country.
He emphasised that illegal activities of smugglers are detrimental to the nation’s economy and must be curbed in all ramifications.
He reiterated his commitments and that of his officers to work assiduously in sustaining the tempo of anti-smuggling operations in the Command.
Recall that the same Command recently recorded mind-blowing seizures of prohibited items worth over N82.5million in monetary value, fromJune 4, to July 6, 2021.
More so, Wada, who is experienced and intelligent Customs officer, is known for discipline and result- oriented approach in carrying out his professional duties.
When he was the CAC of Seme Command, he demonstrated similar resilience, he is using now to defeat smugglers in Katsina State.
