” As Dr Aniebonam urges Lagos NUJ to tackle quackery in the media

The Founder, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, has disclosed plans by the group to hold a grand reception in honour of former Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Barr. Hassan Bello, who retired recently.

Dr Aniebonam, revealed this during a visit by the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council, Mr Adeleye Ajayi and his Executive members, who were at NAGAFF headquarters for the Powerful Pen Media Chapel election.

Aniebonam, who extolled the good qualities of Barr. Bello, said the reception becomes necessary to express appreciation for his outstanding achievements and uncommon leadership traits while in office.

His assertions: “During COVIID – 19 lockdown, Bello arranged vehicles and moved from one place to another, carrying freight forwarders to the ports, to ensure that the ports was working effectively despite restriction of movement in the country.

“Sincerely, I don’t know the right words to use in describing his kind of person. His humility is outstanding. I’m yet to see anyone occupying public office showing such level of humility and commitment.

“The arrangement has been concluded and everything is in place. So, the
reception will take place on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.”

Speaking further, Aniebonam, urged the NUJ Chairman to tackle quackery in the media, stressed that Journalism is a serious profession, which involves information dissemination to the society, to enhance good governance, economic growth and development.

His words: “Everyone depends on information from the media to know what government is doing in its policies and programmes. So, we need competent Journalists to handle this important task, in order to give people credible information at all times.

“Look at our seaports for instance, so many things are happening there. Let the maritime Journalists go into the ports, carry out thorough investigation and bring vital information to the attention of government and the public as well.

“The work of giving information is very vital even to our economy and must be handled with all seriousness”.
